Rethinking our policy toward Afghanistan requires vigorous public debate and Congressional oversight. Every major war or military action since World War II has come under the microscope of Congressional oversight hearings

U.S is now and was then responsible for the mess and adversity in Afghanistan.

I agree it is not the responsibility of the U.S government to build Afghanistan but they are accountable for the mess they have created and thus they are responsible for cleaning it up which they won't because that's not how the U.S foreign policy works.

Samsor

He has the power to level with the American people, and share with us what he learned when he tried to release the torture photos last year - that is, the fact that the President takes his orders from the Pentagon and not the other way around.

Sure, they'd kill him, but they can't eat him.

The real goal is destroy Islam from Morocco to Pakistan to the Sudan. It's proven to be too much of an anti-corporate unifying force.

Bush was being honest when he called this a crusade.

What we did in Iraq was agree to surrender in Al Anbar and retreat, as a prelude to a full withdrawl.

The problem is that we have no intent to leave completely in 2011 as the SOFA dictates - and the war will go hot when that deadline passes.

If we decide to negotiate similar surrender terms with the Taliban, we should be sure to honor them. However, given the 30 billion dollars we've spent building permenant air bases and torture centers (I mean, prisons) it doesn't seem at all likely that we're leaving within the next 50 years.

So, we'll stay untill the dollar is devalued and we have no choice...but there's no doubt that the man recently elected to head this Crusade against the Muslim World would like to put on yet another show of 'desiring peace'.

Afghanistan is not now, and was not then, our responsibility.

The people of Afghanistan will have whatever government, or lack of government, they like once we leave. And that will always be their responsibility.

The only question for Americans is whether we leave now, or waste another thousand lives and another trillion dollars before we go.

With over a million homeless American children, with 17 million Americans in need of full-time jobs, with our debt spiraling out of control, and with a real war against the banks destroying our country that needs fighting...I vote for leaving sooner.

Pashtuns fighting central Government????? It's right that most of the Taliban are Pashtuns but it does not mean that all Pashtun's are Taliban in fact most Pashtuns are not Taliban. The local Pashtuns from all over the country welcomed U.S thinking they might bring peace to the country. But instead they are the victims of Taliban and the ISAF both. When ISAF kills people and destroys villages of Pashtuns, can you really expect sympathy from them towards ISAF. But instead if the ISAF build schools and stop murdering local there will be sympathy.

Again it's a dirty game. The U.S is supporting War lords and worst criminals through the Afghan government and besides that can not avoid killing civilians that's the real problem. Not that Pashtuns are all like this. Stop Calling Pashtuns terrorist or warlike people, We are the ones that suffer the most and we know more then others the value of peace. Stop playing with us. U.S created the mess from the beginning of USSR invasion by supporting criminals and once their Enemy Russia was defeated they left the mess in Afghanistan and went. If they leave now like that they will repeat the same mistake, what they need to do is stop supporting wrong people and stop killing innocent children.
