Rethinking our policy toward Afghanistan requires vigorous public debate and Congressional oversight. Every major war or military action since World War II has come under the microscope of Congressional oversight hearings

Great article Tom! This is truly insight into a society whose members will probably not what to hear or think about it! The constant whine of politicians crying about where the money will come from for health care, or global warming really can't understand that there is more money than we all need right here in our war machine going right down the drain. I have this pet theory that the mythical terrorists we can't seem to defeat was an epiphany of someone in the military industrial complex who realized that following Reagans' blunder of forcing the Russians' exit from the arms race would ultimately end in the collapse of our great military machinery since peace seemed inevitable. How could we justify the astronomical expenditures for the next generation of super cool weaponry without an adversary? Bush and his buddies in the intelligence racket cooked up an enemy to end all enemies. One who could never be defined much less defeated. A perpetual state of war would be fabulous for the bank account of those industries and agencies involved in war. And so here we are under the total control of the worst despots of humanity to ever roam the earth. We are being led, like sheep, to our own slaughter by our own leaders, with our own sweat and blood funding the fiasco. Meanwhile, down at the church, religious right has thrown their divine support behind the devil as they preach the coming armageddon because of the evil liberal morality of a democracy that doesn't even exist.

The money made in these wars are now with the private security companies & their mercenaries (guns for hire) that are making billions of dollars and at the cost of thousands and thousands of innocent lives (men, women and children), billions of dollars in destruction. Millions left homeless, injured, mentally and emotional scared, starving, orphaned and some of the people have survived the bombings and killings by weapons of mass destruction have survived only to see their entire families massacred.

If the Unites States Government invested as many dollars in to feeding the hungry, healing the sick, medical and environmental research, ( possible cures for cancer / other diseases), educating its children, employment, farming, ranching, building industry, taking care of its citizens and minding it own business then all of the world would be a safer & better place. Yes, there are many evils and wars to be fought and injustices throughout the world that we as a human race need to address but the illegal invasion of another country is not the America I was brought up to believe in. Not a bleeding heart just a person that cares about humanity and believes all life is of value.
