While you're at it Mr. President, say thank-you to Mr. Harper and tell him he can bring the Canadian combat troops home. Ditto to any Canadian police who are training for 'anti-insurgency/anti-terrorist' operations.

They've done enough good.

The Taliban and Alqueda are not one in the same. Can't we carefully think about our trillion dollar debt in relation to national security? We are in the way of their civil war. Sadaam is dead... Intelligence sources didn't act on much provided to them prior to the 9-11 attack because the federal organizations are too fragmented to act decisively and quickly. I hope we study this before we put another 100,000 young men and women on the road to oblivion.

Yes, Greg Mortenson has dedicated his life (in memory of his sister) to the people of the high regions of Afghanistan. At great risk to his own life, he bounces from Montana to Afghanistan to build schools for girls as well as boys. These schools are run by the local people. The better educated the citizens, the better choices they make.

I lived in Iraq and Kuwait as a child when my father helped develop and train people in the drilling operations of Wafra and the oil rigs near Basra. This was in the 1960s. We were cautious and respectful to everyone we met, although isolated by the company compound. The people in our world were kind and fun. I shudder to wonder what has happened to these people. Americans can be safe on our own soil. I'll not be able to feel safe abroad. The trillion dollar debt since 9-11 and "roll of thunder" was an unwelcomed response. Our health care, education, fire, police, homeless deserve more.
