President Obama to Request Another $33 Billion for Unpopular Wars
Posted by Derrick Crowe on January 13th, 2010

The Associated Press reports that President Obama “plans to ask Congress for an additional $33 billion” to fight the unpopular Iraq and Afghanistan wars, “on top of a record request for $708 billion for the Defense Department next year.”

This request comes in the middle of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, at a time when our country can least afford it. Economist Dean Baker recently pointed out that “in standard economic models, defense spending is a direct drain on the economy, reducing efficiency, slowing growth” and costing huge numbers jobs. These costs are so significant that President Obama felt the need to include mention of them when he announced his most recent decision to add more troops in Afghanistan.

We can’t afford more open-ended, economically damaging spending on these unpopular wars.

beer is good, your all hooked and people are crazy, and to all a happy new year and i'll leave the light on.......quick..... duck..... it's the defficit!

well, the proof is in the pudding....we except these things because of the nature of the beast.if you watch the discovery channel you can see how the wild performs it's task.it is human nature to want to have it all,and at any cost.when a baby cries it wants something to stop the baby from crying you need to either feed the baby or change it's dyper or maybe it breast feeds and wants a nibble.that would usually stop the baby from crying.like the commercial on espn when the dog can't stop worrying about it's bone.it baffles me because i've seen it all.the drug usage was evident.we all agree to pay millions and billions for these activities and the effects are astonishing to watch.so my question would be why do we praise and cheer when in direct proportion we critizize and want to slap on the hand.it's absolutely pathetic.i've seen horses using lasex to help win races and sports athletes using performance enhancing drugs and i sure know how hard you have to work without these scenarios to get the kind of performance we all watch everyday.

The President had promised to make cuts, so President Obama has announced a partial spending freeze on discretionary spending. He hasn't released many details, but he indicates that he will save $250 billion over three years, and the details will be released in the Federal Budget, due out soon, and also the State of the Union address that is upcoming. Federal debt is currently 80% of GDP – so Congress will need payday loans to keep open before long.

  • Electra Teodosiadis
This unlimited defense spending is not only a great drain on the U.S. economy but a contributing factor in the decline of our nation.
  • d.r
this is outrageous. we need to think pashtunwali: the tribal code of afghanistan. we need to get out of afganistan, leave it the pashtuns; and the pashtuns to the government. what's not to get? rethink afghanistan
  • Finkel
O.K., but first let's remember the senseless attack and senseless war in Afghan. was a talionic response...a revenge response to an idea, a strategy called terrorism...It is my humble opinion that we need to remember....Bush and Co. walked out on the World Conference at Durbin, which proceeded the attack on this country!

That thread needs to be picked up and rethreaded to support a logical and grounded movement forward to transform this senseless course we are on...which is destroying not only necessary resouces, but also our Humanity!!!!
  • Geez..., There's only ten 'likes' in here out of 61 comments so far, ...and three of those are mine. What's up with that? If you believe in someone's statements, please try to support them and give them inspiration to carry on. Perhaps in addition to offering our own views, it would be very helpful to spend some allocated time to actively support people (and organizations), that are saying the right things. That's what it's all about, finding our common human thread and working together, ...and for each other to change the world, ...right?
  • untitled06
your doing a good job i read the statements and a hot bath or shower usually is good for the soul, try reading a good book or the uncle henry's.did you see koby bryant and his amazing agility against the nuggets.you can't really change anything.you just have to take it and like it like my government has taught me.and try to be happy with what you have and be greatfull and believe in "jesus" i always make sure i tell him i love him everyday.the only thing i would like to change is having more privilages to help grow the economy in my neck of the woods.this is how my life works.a."you shouldn't talk to loudly"b.no monetary policies c.you work real hard and the rewards are not allowed to be in direct proportion with the effort.therefore if we went out together on a job and you watched me as i produced 10,000 in goods and services.you tell me here,"i got the cash" you get 88 dollars and i keep 9,912 for me.that has been the story of my life involving my great president.so the 22 million in american currency i produced was shortly rewarded by doing the math the formula would be the house wins and the worker loses.you have no say and are not allowed to be part of my organization unless you want to be told what to do and have the "shit"put to you all the time evrytime i feel like harrasing you.if we were a team and you helped me and we earned 22 million i would give you half minus the cost of the bills to produce the production.so i figure using a simple generous formula that my government owes me about 7 million dollars to set my employment record straight and the relationship we once had.

    Grateful Child,
I am with you on that and very much want to speak to some of what you said, particularly, the dead bird and crow metaphor!

Let us keep talking in order to work towards creating some kind of critical mass aligned in right action and comprehensive understanding..... I will be in touch with more ideas on this site!

What happened to the promise Obama made not to spend more money on an open ended war that has nothing to do with America? The threat of a few terrorists attacking us does not call for such an unsustainable amount of money or lost lives. We would be better
off removing all of our troups and spending money reinforcing our borders with fences and soldiers to patrol them and ocean fronts with a strong naval presence. So much of this money could be used to profide new industries and jobs for Americans, better schools, housing, and health care for everyone. This war benefits no one except the big business war machine. Look at the obscene amount of money Haliburton, and Kellogg, Root and Brown (Dick Cheney's former employer,) and Blackwater have made to name a but a few...
  • penwel
AH MONEY! The shame on the Human race. Has money replaced our Gods, our very selves for sale to the highest bidder? Has money replaced Human dignity? Since the time Jesus Christ chased the money changers from the temple? Hasn't it corrupted the temple too? Money is a needed commodity we honestly labor for wages to barter sustenance in life for Human survival. But in these modern times, the age of enlightenment. The all mighty buck has turned all our lights off. We are now climbing a dark mountain of money to the other side of the mountain looking for more money. Our caregivers are too caring, giving away money like recycled newspaper. Obama and company have reached the other side of the dark money mountain to nowhere. I hope and pray they don't take America and us with them ! ...
PS: Has anyone change for a buck? sorry, I have only a few pennies too !!!

Stop the death and destruction. We get enough of that through natural disasters.
  • sam
Please don't be duped. The earthquake in Haiti was caused by the US government. They were testing weather control systems.

Also the war on terror is as FAKE as the war on drugs. The central bankers intelligence arms (CIA, MI6, Mossad) are the REAL terrorists and drug runners.

    When will we WAKE UP!!

The 'monetary system' is the root cause of all our problems and luckily it is obsolete.

Humans need food, water, clothing, shelter, education, medicine, energy, transportation. We have ALL the resources and knowledge to provide all that and more in abundance for everyone on earth.

Any system that doesn't have that as its primary focus is detrimental to humans. Mankind must evolve beyond 'monetary systems' (which only create haves and have nots) to a system where we SHARE all resources and technology.
  • untitled06
what are you talking about the earthquake and sunami's have been the direct result of humans messing up the earth.testing a new technique called "premeditated pronumtious ingnoritism",since you have typed your scenario/opinion.my opinion is the koreans have found a system to take lives by using the earth, the water and the train channel to channel destruction to destroy in the path of the initial premeditated striking sites.it's simple, thers a few ways to create what's been happening,1st by drilling holes in the earth at certain locations and degitnating what refered to as" silent devastation"don't think for a new york minute that some of these catstrophies havn't occured by the effects of this scenario.secondly the direct controlling of weather-patterns.
  • penwel
Dear Sam: I'd say we have awakened. We just haven't turned the alarm off yet !...
  • At least one good thing, ...ummm, maybe two. The drone aircraft scheduled to be deployed in Afghanistan, is now being sent to Haiti. So now it will serve to save lives instead of destroying them. I'll have to say it's a pretty decent effort by Obama and the US coming to the aid of Haiti, ...sending that state-of-the-art hospital ship and 10,000 troops to help disperse much material aid. Gee, wouldn't it be nice if all the armies in the world's primary function was to serve humanity like that, instead of focusing on destroying it. That's what armies should really be for, ...there's no reason they should be for anything else. No reason at all...
And, it's too bad we didn't invest all this money and resource before the earthquake instead of after the fact. It probably would have even cost us less to have given them safe homes and some sense of a chance at life, and Love, and laughing children.
And no, ...selfishness is universal, ...this isn't the US's fault alone, it's the failure of the world as well that we haven't the human decency to take care of our own children. Human beings are the only form of life this earth has ever known that has broken the bonds of stagnation and self. We have a unique choice and a chance, ...the ability to think, reason, and rise up from the violence that has surrounded us since time began. I saw a crow once on the side of the road, ...he was looking down at a dying creature and cocking his head back and forth. It was as if he was trying to understand something, ...maybe something he should feel, but you could see, he just didn't get it. Will we remain as crows, or will we learn to care for each other and continue the path our evolution must take to survive.
  • untitled06
are you sure we should not be paranoid about this scenario of redirecting change.maybe with all the devistation that has been cuased by my brain scenarios have redirected themselve in a psychological format pattern of destruction.with all the corruption going on anything can be thought of on the long hall or short winded throughout humanities triles and tribulations.or maybe there are too many people taking the wrong path and we could be viewed and or seen as beeing in denial.the problem is "i need the key to the minting machines and the printing presses.and to apply a new formula to begin the change evryone was pomised!!!!

Bring our troops home.Mr. Presd. you do not have a clear path to bringing them home.all of the military has to do is tell you in 2011 that it is not save at this time ,to leave. Or they will give you some other lame excuse to prevent you from bringing them home.hoe far wilo you go in supporting these wars. Must we go bankrupt. Why not used the troops in the homeland security.Ode hundred trops wow. We are fighting 2 wars and one insurgent can come across our borders with atomic bomb and cause such irreparable damage and thosands of deaths. In addition theses wars are a cause of our economy
  • maggiemagnolia
Do I bother writing here? Will it make any difference? I hate what our government is doing. It does not represent my feelings. I want us out of these countries if we are waging war. If we were to be doing peaceful activities and helping to generate good will, that would be different. I think that is possible though. Many of us feel this way and need to let others know. A new world is possible.
  • penwel
DEAR MAGGIEMAGNOLIA: YOUR POST ON GOVERNMENT INCOMPETENCE CONCERNING HUMAN DIGNITY AND CARING RATHER THAN INVOLVEMENT IN FOREIGN WARS ON FOREIGN SOIL. IS RIGHT ON MARK. AS WE HAVE LEARNED, GOVERNMENTS DON'T USUALLY DO WHAT IS BEST FOR A COUNTRY, OR ITS PEOPLE. GOVERNMENTS ARE POWER POLITICS. MOST OF THIS WORLDS GOVERNING POWERS WE WOULDN'T CARE TO Be INVOLVED WITH. MY 88 YEARS EXPERIENCE AS AN AMERICAN BORN CITIZEN, VETERAN. NEVER GIVE UP ON AMERICAN GOVERNMENT, NOR AMERICA. BUT THAT DOESN'T SAY WE THE AMERICAN PEOPLE SHOUDN'T MONITOR THE POWERS WE ELECT INTO PUBLIC OFFICE CONSIDERING HUMAN STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESS. WE WILL ALWAYS UNKNOWINGLY ELECT THE WORST OF THE CROP AT TIMES. AND ONLY LEARN LATER OUR MISTAKES. WITH OUR U.S. CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS, GIVEN TO US FOR POSTERITY BY OUR FOREFATHERS, THE FOUNDERS OF AMERICA. WE HAVE THE RIGHTS TO CHANGE ANY POLITICAL FIGURE WE ELECT INTO GOVERNMENT WHO MIGHT NOT HOLD THE STANDARDS, REPUTATION, OR OTHER, TO GOVERN AMERICA AND HOLD AMERICAN IDEALS ABOVE ALL POLITiCAL OFFICE AND SELF!

Perhaps, the attack on the U.S. on 9/11/01 was the pain and outrage
coming back to these parts for all the pain and destruction brought about by a disembodied,soul-robbed paradigm that is still operative, but is no longer functional or relevant to our time.
Perhaps the action and response to that attack was a test of human evolution. Our response was a failure of that momentous, critical moment of this country. When will someone understand that someone has to take a risk of love, heart and understanding!
Is it so idealistic to expect our Chief Executive to have integrity and
humanity and to make choices and govern from that place?.
Do you all remember the agenda candidate Obama offered in his campaign,he explicitly said it IS US,WE the people--the Public that will show him the way! I believe at this time perhaps in all of our magnificent conflictual expressions of opinion and outrage and longing expressed on these magnificent pages, there is a way.
We must continue to use this technology and our freedom in this country to express ourselves to create a Critical Mass for change!
I do believe holding the paradox is the way...
And I believe of all the people who have held the post as President of this country Obama is the only one in my comprehensive political
life, who seems to have the emotional and intellectual maturity to do so.
It's just his first year. Give him a chance! Give us a chance!!

How do we come together and make our ideas, based on our heartfelt needs heard in a comprehensive way so we can be in dialogue with Obama?

The more I think about all the people that are out of work and the people that are going to be out of work because of the reckless spending that is happening because of these two wars is really pissing me off. Any person with half a brain would see that to continue this war in Afghanistan is economic suicide. Our politicians will never learn anything from history will they? They will make the same mistakes that have being made for centuries that you cannot win a war in this country.

What we really should do is allow for our enemies to use Afghanistan as their home base at the least this way we would have a way of monitoring them. We won't need an entire army to do that which would save all kinds of money. I'm tired of hearing these politicians saying that they will spend what ever it takes to keep us safe. No, that thinking is so misguided. What needs to be done is for these pols. to be penny wise from now on and no longer nickel foolish as they have been for nearly 10 years now. We have the ability to follow their activities from a central base much easier then what we have right now. Bring our troops home and use some of the savings to take care of them for they have earned it!!!

If you really want to build America, get out of Afghanistan and Iraq. Russia went broke waging war where they didn't need to. Learn from their experience.
And Buy American made goods. With property prices what they are in America, outsourcing manufacturing is toxic to American citizens.

This is just another pledge to continue the destruction middle eastern states and populations for our own interests without changing the hearts and minds of our enemies. After all these trillions of dollars spent and millions of lives on anti terrorist efforts we cant even stop bomb stuffed in a mans tighty whiteys. There is no evidence that war is solving this problem only that there is even greater anti-Americanism. Where there's an anti-American will, there is a way. In other words we can destroy states and people but we can not destroy anti American sentiment until we stop the insane cycle violence. Fight anti-American sentiment with with peaceful means. I support a pledge for a large sum of money for massive campaign of diplomacy and cross cultural respect and understanding our one another's needs. Lets replace self-interest with mutual interest.
  • drjohnclamb
Obama, Bush, Johnson, Wilson...all the same. We can stop these five wars by pushing back in firm, peaceful, surprising ways. We brought Vietnam to a halt; we can do the same to Iraq & Afghanistan. Resist!

All presidents are puppets for the central bankers. The root cause of all the problems is the money system.

Luckily they whole thing is failing. Capitalism failed. Governments failed. We must design our society to take account of all people's needs FIRST.

The problems we have are all TECHNICAL, politicians and economists know NOTHING about fixing them. Sharing the worlds resources and building automated systems to create abundance of needs/wants is the path to prosperity
  • A. Smith.
And just who will produce this wealth to share? You? Or shall you take it from me at the point of a gun. Unfettered Capitalism has saved more lives in its short history that all the other systems ever imagined possible.
  • Mxlplkt
Mr. Smith, I don't know if you're a liar or merely an idiot. We had laissez faire capitalism in these United States from the end of the Civil War until more or less 1932. Most people worked 100 hours a week when they could find a job. And there was a depression every 20 years. People who for one reason or another couldn't work had starvation as their leading cause of death in the summer and exposure in the winter. Laissez Faire capitalism tends to concentrate wealth in very few hands. It has been enforced throughout central and south America until just recently. It is the reason for such widespread poverty there. It is the reason for the continuous violent revolutions by poverty stricken peasants. It is the reason Chavez and his cronies have taken power in their respective countries. It is the reason the Castro brothers were able to take Cuba. It doesn't work. I'll take European capitalism any time.

NOW AN IMPOSSIBLE DREAM, TOO IMPOSSIBLY REAL. BUT ALL WE CAN DO AT THIS TIME, AS THE COMMON PEOPLE, IS TO KEEP SPEAKING OUT PEACEABLY AGAINST EVILS IN GOVERNMENT TODAY. IT ISN'T GOING TO GET BETTER AND MAY EVEN GET WORSE. IF OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS IN WASHINGTON D.C. FROM THE PRESIDENT ON DOWN TO JOE THE PLUMBER. AS TO SAY. DOESN'T GET THE MESSAGE FIRST HAND CONCERNING US. THE AMERICAN PEOPLES DISSENT, AGAINST GOVERNMENT WASTE, OVER SPENDING, INCOMPETENCE IN CERTAIN OFFICE POSITIONS THAT HARM AMERICA NOT BUILD. THERE DOESN'T SEEM TO BE ANY AGREEMENTS BETWEEN THE PRESIDENT, SENATE, CONGRESS AND WHATEVER IN GOVERNMENT AS TO WHAT IS BEST FOR AMERICA. Most of the comments are Obama=Bush or Obama is a socialist. Name calling is really helpful.

While I don't believe in the war, I also don't think we can completely pull out right now. I think pulling out by 2012 is possible though. We need to push for the same type of plan in Afghanistan as that happened in Iraq. Get them on their feet and get out. Some don't get that Obama said in the campaign he'd focuse more on Afganistan and that is what he is doing.
  • sal000
David, you condescending arrogant narrow minded white supremacist, you cannot get anyone "on their feet" you've already broken their legs. The problem is you americans are so backward you imagine everyone is as primitive as you -- you've destroyed an intellectually an spiritually advanced nations far in advance of you, proven by the fact that all you know is violence and deceit and that is what is destroying our earth. You need to look in the mirror and reflect on all the shit inside YOU! Violence only begets violence, do you understand, you backward moron.

President Obama ~ has become America's and the world's biggest disappointment. All his campaign promises are turning out to be just lip service until he got into office and now just politics as usual ~ nothing but lip service. He is turning out to be just another wolf in sheep's clothing ~ just an extension of Bush/Cheney administration policy and working for the good old boys cartel in Washington. America needs leadership that cares about its people ...keeps it promises. Leadership with Truth and Honor earn respect of its people. It saddens me to see how easily humanity no longer has respect for life and we kill like it is some right of passage. How many civilian casualties; innocent men, women, children have to die for our war on terror? How many of our young men and woman have to come home in body bags/ or with loss of limbs/ mind and souls? How many of our sons and daughters have to die for the lie? All the billions of dollars we keep spending on mass destruction of life and property~ could feed, house, cloth, educate, cure, advance alternative energy sources... for millions of Americans and the world but instead our Government continues to "STAY the Course" (whatever that means) and continue the death count.

33 billion? Whats 33 billion here, or there, for Obama and Company? They have all the recycled paper they need to make more billions to be gone with the wind. Obama should have asked for 33 trillion. He could give us a tithe. Considering we've been taken to the cleaners faster than an old suit that we can't afford today to dry clean. Obama and company was hired on a Buck. Spent more of our hard earned federal tax money 3 months in office, that none of us earns in a lifetime of civil employment. I do believe by all reasoning, with todays failed economy, and a federal administration that thinks money is the maker of all things, spend, spend, spend. Wastes money like leaves falling from the trees in a northern fall. Obama and company seems destined for the poor house and us with them. My vote helped elect Obama and company into the office of the Presidency. My next vote will help to vote Obama and Company out of the office of the presidency ! ...
PS: Any posts with foul language referring to this post. Don't waste time introducing yourself. I don't have the time to play either...

When will America understand that every time we send soldiers to "solve" a political issue, we only create new enemies for decades to come?
If French (or anyone else) invaded USA to make us like them (killing a whole bunch of us, kidnaping and torturing hundreds, maybe thousands of us in some distant jails), that would really change our minds, right?
For every person we kill, injure, or stick into a jail, we create at least 10 kids that will be looking for revenge when they gey old enough!

We are fighting a losing battle with this so-called "War on Terror" that all our guys in WASHINGTON DC are so keen about!
In order to get our fighting equipment and supplies through Taliban territories, we have to pay them hundreds of thousands, possibly even millions, of dollars so they won't attack us as we supply our troops.
We then lose because, with this money, they are then better able to fight our troops. All this money then goes quite far as they have no million dollar weapons to lose, like we do.
Doesn't Washington see that this only prolongs the wars, while the contractors salaries and costs drain our budget? We have the health of the people (including Haiti) to think about! Have they all been blinded by the contractors lobbiests?
IT IS TIME FOR A CHANGE IN POLICIES IN WASHINGTON!
Dick Chaney was clearly in bed with all the military contractors, as he and his buddy Don Rumsfeld, were DOD Secretaries for many past Presidents, thus he created a war so they could all profit ... get the oil from Sadam that President Bush (41) couldn't get and then, like with the bankers, wall street and the insurance companies right now, we pick up the tab, so we taxpayers are clearly the losers! We need a change in thinking and policies! The Almighty Dollar is not our Over Lord! We don't have to be slaves to making a buck - no matter what!

I called my congressman's office (DeFazio) and told them that I do not want any more military appropriations for Iraq or Afghanistan. Period. Use the money they now have to get us out of there. I also stated that I will not support or vote for any congressional member that continues to fund those military adventures.

Those who think that we should just get out of Afganistan are blind to the consequences of that act. We cannot just let the Taliban take over again. That would put us in danger as well as all who would have to live under their rule. I look at Desmond Tutu's quote at the top of the page and I don't think I want to be complicit in the acts of terror that the Taliban would perpetrate on their own people or in the giving of a sanctuary to AlQaeda.

This is just disgusting!!!!!! We need to get OUT of these wars!!!! There is NO question about that!!!!! Our country is going to hell in a hand basket fast!
  • why don't we just cut the Pentagon's budget by 50-70%? That way we could have enough money to expand medicare for all citizens, rebuild the school system, and reinvest in small businesses.

Errrrrr.......tomeg42,you start out making a socialist argument. Then you object to Obama leading us into, "Socialism?" What you're actually talking about us getting closer to is Fascism, the polar opposite of socialism. And, yes, the corporate Democrats, in the end will be different in degree only, not in kind. That is why I support the Progressives. I also support the Green party. But given the choice between a Republican and or Libertarian and a corporate Democrat, I'm stuck. I have to take the Democrat, as unsatisfactory as he might be, until the Green Party can field a candidate with a genuine chance to win.

DAMM but this request just really pisses me off! Is he nuts? Now the Haiti debacle, huge resources and consumer money for that. Just where in hell does Obama think this money is coming from? I want us OUT of these godforsaken foreign countries--we CANNOT win a war where there is no FRONT! We should be providing to Afghanistan and Iraq the same kind of aid we're sending to Haiti. For crying out loud, where are all those brains he used at Harvard????

Well, I know we don't need to spend $33 billion on an illegal war of choice in Afghanistan. And we certainly should cut the defense budget to $500 billion for next year. If it keeps going, the budget will be a trillion dollars a year. We need to cut it now (of course, ideally we'd get rid of the Department of Defense.)
  • gy charn
yes. with such a big defense budget we have to create enemies.

This President has come into office and has not done one damn thing he pledged he would do that would benefit the American taxpayer. Everything he has done such as kept most all of GWB's people in place has continued the course that is leading this country towards it's demise. His programs that he is so adamant about pushing through the Congress, his health care bill, the cap and trade bill, the amnesty for the millions of criminal aliens in this country illegally and now his outright push to keep these wars on going so that the powers that be ( the great industrial military complex ) can continue to grow fat and happy off the backs off those middle class taxpayers that still have jobs today. As you can see if one were to open their eye's is just how this is all playing together for Obama to get his way in bringing this nation ever so closer to socialism. We citizens must put a stop to it and do it starting with your primary elections next month by voting the incumbents out of office and bring in new people to represent us. Party affiliation be damned for there is no difference between the two. If you give one damn bit about yourself and or your country you'll get busy starting right now by getting the word out to family and friends about just what is happening around us.

we need good social programs like europe.

This is no end to this outrageous spending for unecessary wars!
President Obama has no right to do that to us Americans!
I won't vote for him again! My trust for him is gone! So sad!

The war on terror is as FAKE as the war on drugs. The central bankers intelligence arms (CIA, MI6, Mossad) are the REAL terrorists and drug runners.

    When will we WAKE UP!!

The 'monetary system' is the root cause of all our problems and luckily it is obsolete. We need to make all earth's resources 'common heritage' to all people and all the wars, fighting, crime, poverty, etc. will end.

Automated systems that produce abundance is the world's only path to prosperity.

Obama is full of it and exactly the same as Bush. He hasn’t removed troops from Iraq and is sending more to Afghanistan. Gitmo is still open and torturing and indefinitely holding innocent people without due process.

NOT ONE of the government officials involved in 911, wiretapping, torture, lying us into wars, etc. has been held accountable. 700 billion banker bailout was bad but they got about 2 trillion more and we have the phony universal medicine and carbon tax scams coming.

These days I call Obama…the ORGAMI PRESIDENT, because he folded on just about everything!

He folded on overturning the Patriot Act
He folded on don’t ask don’t tell
He folded on Med-care for all, and or Single Payer
He folded on buying our pharmaceuticals offshore
    He folded on clean energy
He folded on Guantanamo, and torture
He folded on Iraq, and on Afghanistan
And last but not least, he folded on hope, and on us.

So I ask you, what has changed?
    Apparently Nothing!

Democrat/Republican, it's basically the same. Want to end "bi-partisian" polictics? Support one of the many other parties: Green, Libertarian, Socialist, Communist, etc, if you really want "Change". Who really believes that we are winning the hearts and minds of the Middle East now that the casualties inflicted by the "Allied" forces have "fallen" to just 25% of the total. Wouldn't most Americans convert to Islam if Islamic terrorists "only" killed about 500 Americans a year? Get out NOW!

    PRESIDENT OBAMA.
I HAVE NOTHING BUT ADMIRATION FOR YOU. YOU ARE ALL THE HOPE WE HAVE WAITED FOR.
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU REMEMBER ALL OF US WITH NO VOICE WHO LONG FOR YOU TO DO THE RIGHT THING ABOUT THIS OBSCENE WAR.

Obama is doing just what he said he'd do. He's governing from the center. The American center, that is. That is why I voted for Kucinich in the primary. But anyone who implies I should vote for a Re-Nazi-can because Obama's results have been lackluster is barking up the wrong tree. Obama isn't so good. But unfortunately, he's the best we have right now.

What's the matter with you people!!! Certain individuals need the drug money! Leave them alone!

This war must stop! People on earth must stop overconsumption of the earth's resources, for the sake of the animals, plants and all living beings.

Here's a critical issue: never has American naivete and denial been on such ghastly display as with the (now minority's) continued, obstinate, and baseless support for brand Obama!
  • duppyconqueror
Ya gotta get your mind out of "what we can afford" that's the imperialist logic that Obama is so good at training people in. how about the lives of the people of afghanistan? how about all the damage this war continues to do to them? isn't that what we should be focusing on?
  • good post, ...that's what we should be focusing on if we really care about these people. All this money going to Haiti now, ...a day late and a dollar short. It isn't God's fault or nature's, the fault lies in the cradle of our indifference in which so many people are born into, ...a life of poverty and suffering. Who's fault and failure is that? 60% of these people's homes were unsafe to live in before the earthquake. I can only hope someday the conscience of the world will rise up from the rubble and the broken and crushed children, and make this world a safe home for every child. Thanks duppyconqueror...

I totally agree that the human cost is the most important. We have to make all the arguments, though.

Madness continues. Obama has been sucked in. It will take a President beholden to few to change our involvements.
  • noinfo
Obviously we are fighting something greater than Al Queda .over there. On some level we are not being told about this is a resource war. All of Obama"s talk about redoing the economy was just talk. The guy has become a disappointment.
  • wyyynona
OMG! Is he crazy?! Just how are we going to afford that? If we approve that mess, American will never survive! Snd do you really think other countries would come to our aid?! HELL NO!
